History
Viña Saavedra is a family tradition company, located in the Melozal Valley, 30 kilometers southwest of San Javier, on the banks of the Loncomilla River. Its origins date back to the year 1878, when Mr. José León Saavedra planted the first grapevines and built the winery with the technology of that time. Its history and gradual growth have always been united and guided by the Saavedra family.
In the 1980s, the new generations promoted development with the planting of new varieties, the incorporation of technology, and the increase in the winery's capacity. In 2001, they began exporting, and today their wines reach numerous countries in Europe, Asia, and America. The quality of their wines has been recognized in national and international competitions, backed by the heritage value of over 140 years of history.
Vineyards
The vineyards are located in Melozal, San Javier, a low plateau in the rain shadow of the Coastal Range. The soils are of alluvial origin with varying fertility depending on their location. The Mediterranean climate, with intense summers and average maximum temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius in January and February, is very well suited to long ripening varieties. It is characterized by receiving a constant breeze after midday during the summer months, which helps to cool the grapes, giving the wines their own unique personality.
Main grape varieties planted: Carménère, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon (Tío Lucas Vineyard); Cabernet Sauvignon (Santa Javiera Vineyard); Cabernet Sauvignon (Crucesillas Vineyard).
